#PML10430 CHEVY SMALL BLOCK PRE 1986 W/RAISED CHEVROLET

These PML valve covers are standard perimeter mount covers for pre-1986 small block Chevy engines. The CHEVROLET script and fins are cast into the cover and are raised. On powder coated parts, the powder coat is shaved off the top of the script and the fins.

These covers feature a mid-height design that will clear most roller and/or ratio rockers. There is no correlation between roller rocker ratio and fitment of our valve covers. It is based on the actual physical dimensions of the parts. These valve covers were designed using a stock head and the Jesel Roller rocker system. Please check dimensions in above link to verify clearance for your particular configuration.

Optional PCV, Breather, and Oil Fill Holes

PML small block valve covers are made without holes for PCV, oil fill or breather. The two most common engine configurations are (1) no holes required or (2) two holes required, one hole for PCV and one hole for a breather. (Note that either of those holes can also be used for oil fill.)

For engines that require PCV and breather holes on the valve cover, PML designed the casting to be thicker on the intake manifold side below the C where an internal baffle is located. This area can machined with a hole. This way, the top of the valve cover is left alone for a clean, classy appearance.

To order the configuration with PCV and breather holes, choose the option in the shopping cart. The option for PCV and breather holes includes one hole in each cover, a PCV grommet, a push-in breather, and an oil fill tube.

PML machines the valve covers to order in our shop. We use four or five different tools on a CNC machine to create a neat, leak-free hole for PCV, breather or oil fill. Spot facing provides a smooth sealing surface for grommets.

PML Small Block Valve Covers on Edelbrock Performer RPM Cylinder Heads

PML Small Block Chevy valve covers can work with Edelbrock Performer RPM kits. However, the baffle on the PML valve covers will hit the pins unless the baffle is reduced in size. PML can machine the baffle to reduce the size if needed. For the Performer RPM, the distance between the pins is 1.16 inches. Out of the box our baffle is 1.2 inches. The cylinder head is number 6089. The PML valve cover shown is our 25th anniversary edition but the same information applies to all PML small block chevy perimeter mount valve covers.

PML Small Block Valve Covers with T&D Rocker Arms

PML designed small block Chevy valve covers to work with many roller rocker systems, such as Jesel. However, our valve covers are not compatible with T&D Shaft Mounted Rocker Arms.

The T&D Machine Products Competition Rocker Arms are shown in the image at left. The shaft mounts are very tall, almost to the top of the rocker arms. The PML cast-in internal baffles will contact these mounts.
